Why we measure paint depth
Polishing removes clear coat. A gauge tells us how much there is to work with.

Factory paint is usually between 90 and 160 microns thick, and the clear coat on top is only a third of that.
Every pass of a polishing machine removes a few microns. On thin panels we change the plan — softer pads, finer polish, fewer stages.
You get the readings on your job ticket so you know what is left for the future.
